  • The Storming of the Bastille
  • The year was 1788, and France was suffering from overpriced and poor harvesting, as well as different wars. Tax hikes and present voting processes did not satisfy the third real estate. In principle, each property will vote as "property," with the first and second properties always moving the third estate to a 2 to 1 ratio. They invited a delegation from two other places to assist us apply the Constitution to enhance all French citizens. A few days later, the National Assembly discovered the door that locks the door to the conference hall.
  • The March on Versailles
  • To continue the debate, Parliament had to relocate to a neighboring tennis court, and there were fears that the King would dismiss them. With the famous "Tennis Court Oath," they now swear to save France from disaster and to never split up until the Constitution is drafted. The general gathering was attended by people with the reform spirit of the first and second status. The king was furious, and rumors quickly spread that he would disrupt the meeting's proceedings. Finally, Parliament signs the 1791 Constitution, which establishes a limited monarchy and a new legislative assembly to "enact laws, collect taxes, and decide war and peace problems."
  • The Reign of Terror
  • Rumors circulated on July 14, 1789, that the royal army was about to invade the capital. Parisians were clamoring for gunpowder and weapons from the Bastille, a historic stronghold that served as a jail. Over 800 Parisians sought to defend themselves against the monarch and his entourage. Commander Bastille finally opened fire without fear of being humiliated, killing a large number of people. Many supporters saw the episode as a "strike against tyranny," and Parisians applaud the king for his convictions. The storming of the Bastille is a symbol of the French Revolution that is honored to this day.
  • The Rise of Napoleon
  • On October 5th, 1789, an angry crowd of women marched from Paris to the palace in Versailles. Their anger was directed at the King, and at his "deficit" wife, Queen Marie Antoinette. The royal family moved back to Paris, into the Tuileries Palace.
  • The Guillotine came to symbolize the terror during the French Revolution as it would behead nobles, clergy, middle class, and peasants. Robespierre was arrested on July 27th, 1794 and executed the next day. Approximately 40,000 people would die during this time and many feared that they too would be killed if they spoke out against the republic.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte was an eager Lieutenant at the age of 20, who desperately wanted to prove himself as a leader. Throughout his career, Napoleon would have many military successes against Austria, Britain and Prussia. He later became a political leader that helped overthrow the Directory and set up the governing board, the Consulate. Two years later he had gained enough power to crown himself Emperor of France.
