  • Hello my name is Abraham. God promised Canaan for my descendants.
  • Start Working, Now!
  • Please, we will not harm you. Let us stay in Egypt.
  • Will you let my people go?
  • No!
  • In the year 1700 BCE a man named Abraham lived in Ur, Mesopotamia. At some point, According tho the Torah, The Hebrew Bible, Abraham made a covenant. In this agreement, Canaan would belong to Abraham's descendants.
  • Will you let my people go?
  • Fine, GO!
  • Jacob and his family moved from Canaan to Egypt because Canaan had been overcome by famine. Due to Egypt´s great supply of grains, Jacob moved his family to Egypt. As Jacob’s family grew in numbers though ,the Pharaoh began to see them as a threat to overthrow his throne. To ensure that there were no rebellions he forced Jacob’s family into slavery until Moses was born.
  • I will spread the word.
  • Moses was one of Jacob’s descendants who led Jacob´s descendants out of slavery in Egypt, which is now called the Exodus. When he was little his mother sent Moses into the river in a basket to ensure his safety. But the Pharaoh´s daughter found him and adopted him, which is how Moses found himself living in his enemies´s home, the Egyptian palace. God knew Moses was special so he appeared in front of Moses as a flaming bush. He told Moses to go to the Pharaoh and ask him to let his people go. The Pharaoh said no.
  • Rejoice in the name of God!
  • This was followed by ten plagues, terrible hardships, sent to Egypt, by God in order to persuade the Pharaoh to let Jacob´s family go. Finally, on the 10th plague the last and worst of all, every first-born son would die. Moses told Jacobs´s family to sacrifice a lamb and paint the blood on their doorways. This would trick the angle of death to pass over god´s people. In memory of this day and the Exodus, Jews celebrate Passover.
  • The 10 Commandments are a set of 10 laws that tell God´s people how to worship God by acting ethically. Moses revives these important laws along with the Torah on Mount Sinai during the Journey back to Canaan after the Exodus. The examples of the Exodus and the ten commandment are important to Jews, Christians and others today because it teaches them that if you believe in God and obey God´s laws god will protect you.
  • On the return to the Promised Land, Canaan, Moses sadly passed away before he made it. His deputy, Joshua took over for Moses and continued to the Promised Land. They entered Canaan from the east and conquered Jericho and other nearby Kingdoms in Canaan. The tribes descending from Jacob´s sons settled in different parts of Canaan they had conquered. From then on God´s people continued following the Torah, the Hebrew Bible and the idea of only believing in one god, or monotheism.
