Hrothgar, a great king over the last 12 years has suffered because of a monster, Grendel. Grendel has been eating his soldiers.
Beowulf himself comes to the rescue of Hrothgar for repayment for saving his father many years ago. He tells Hrothgar of his great feast and vows to defeat the monster grendel
When all of the others have gone to sleep, Beowulf stays awake waiting for the monster soon. With his tremendous grip, Beowulf tears grendel's shoulder from its socket and the bleeding monster retreats to his den in the marsh. he will not survive the wound.
After a desperate and almost fatal struggle with the monster, he kills Grendel's mother by avenging his son's death, and swims upward the triumph, taking with him Grendel's head as a trophy. Joy is renewed at heorot, and Hrothgar showers Beowulf with more treasures.
When the dragon discovers the thievery, he seeks revenge by attacking the geat people. Beowulf, meets the dragon in battle. after an intense fight, beowulf succeed in killing the beast, but not before the dragon can sink his venomous teeth into. Beowulf's neck, and then he dies.
A great funeral pyre is built and his body is burnt. Then, a memorial barrow is made, visible from a great distance, so that even the sailors far away may be constantly reminded of the greatness of the national hero of Geatland.
