- Scammers will also play on your emotions. In this case, they played on your desire for romance, but in other types of scams where they appear to be from a trusted source, they will make it seem urgent, therefore forcing you to make a rash decision. This is another way that you can tell it's a scam, because real businesses and people will always give you adequate time to consider the problem.
- Another way that you can tell it's a scam is through the fact that the scammer is asking for an unusual method of payment. In this case, the scammer is asking for you to directly send them your bank account details, which would allow them to continually draw money from your account, meaning that the scammer would have access to all of your income. Somebody asking for money would rarely, if ever, do something like that.
- You can also clearly see that this is a scam through the unrealistic nature of this message. How would this person know that you live overseas and therefore requires a plane trip to get to you? Why would they date someone from another country and not be prepared to fly over to them, should things work out? And why don't they ask you to come over to their country if they don't have enough money to come to yours?
