- They arrived within eyesight of the Alps, but with the urgings of his followers, Spartacus turned back, forgoing his last chance at freedom
- Meanwhile Crassus, Rome's wealthiest citizen, coordinated 8 new legions to pursue Spartacus
- Spartacus and his army failed to build rafts to escape, and were further betrayed by local pirates
- In a desperate attempt the remainder of Spartacuses army charged at Crassus' oncoming forces
- And while Spartacus came close to killing Crassus, in the end centurions shot him down
- After the battle the remaining 6000 captives were crucified along the Appian way
