- In the Prologue, Annabelle says, “The year I turned twelve, I learned that what I said and what I did mattered.” The year when Betty Glengarry, the "dark hearted girl" who came to Wolf Hollow, wreaked havoc on Annabelle's life. There were many instances when Annabelle didn't speak up about the wrongs that were occurring. However, we see Annabelle gain strength and courage as she stands up for herself and Toby and discovers her voice.
