The Finch children and their friend Dill attempt to sneak into Boo Radley's backyard to confirm their suspicions of the mysterious Boo.

The plan took a turn, for the kids were nearly caught.  Mr. Radley believed there was a prowler, which led him to shoot his gun as a warning sign to throw off the assumed to be criminal. 
The three troublemakers run off to safety, after realizing the consequences of their actions. Jem gets his pants caught in a fence in the process, only coming back to retrieve to see them perfectly hung on the fence.
Some time after the trial, Jem and Scout go to an event at the school auditorium. Scout ends up losing her dress, so she stays stuck in her costume. While walking home Jem feels some suspicious behavior. 
The suspicious behavior gets confirmed when the kids suddenly get attacked. However, due to the pitch black night, this forbids the two from being able to defend themselves. Luckily, a hero comes in to save the children. 
Scout and Jem's lives were spared but at what cost? Heck Tate finds the attacker's body lay lifeless, who ended up to be Bob Ewell. The saying goes "let the dead bury the dead", so this information gets swept under the rug.
