I was born in Omaha, Nebraska 1925. I was the fourth son out of eight children. I was born to a father who was a preacher and a mother who was a home maker.
In 1929 a racist mob set my house on fire. My town's all white response team refused to do anything about it. We moved to East Lansing shortly after but after two years my father was found dead on the street. It was ruled a motor accident.
I dropped out of highschool when I was 15 due to my teacher telling me there was no point in a black child pursuing education. I later moved in with my half sister Ella who I was very fond of and looked up to.
In 1946 I was arrested on charges of larceny and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. During my time in prison I read a lot of books to try and make up for my loss of education. I ended up converting to the religion of Islam and changed my name to Malcolm X. I was released shortly after.
Shortly after my release I moved to Detroit, Michigan. I became a leader and expanded the Islam movement following among Black Americans nationwide. I became minister of many temples and also founded many of them.
I popularized the idea of a violent revolution to establish an independent Black nation. That got me a lot of followers and I grew the religion of Islam from 400 members to 40,000 by 1960. I was later assassinated in February 21, 1965. My autobiography was later released that same year.
