- 1. Navigation Act-1651
- Why can't we sell to Spain! They have really good prices...
- It was because of that Navigation Act England passed! They are the reason we can't make any good money anymore!.
- 2. Stamp Act-March 22, 1765
- Those British people need to tax themselves to get money! Not us!
- Well... The colonies were responsible for the debt they have so it is only fair that they have to pay for it.
- 3. Quartering Act-March 24, 1765
- I have orders that I can live in your house. Let me in!
- I didn't agree to it! The British are going to make me give you food, shelter, and you are a British soldier for gods-sake! Why should I do anything?
- The Navigation Acts (1651, 1660) were acts made by Parliament. It was basically the British wanting all trade to go on British ships and no other ships. It also made it so that certain goods could only be shipped to Britain. This made it so that the colonies could no longer sell products to other countries. It was important because it was the start of negative things that the British did to the colonists. The British wanted to make an "attack" against the Dutch but it, inadvertently, hurt the colonies.
- 4. Boston Massacre-March 5, 1770
- Oh my god! Why did you shoot him! This is a massacre!
- He started to attack me first! I was defending myself and now look what happened!
- British Parliament passed the Stamp Act to help get more money because of the costly Seven Years' War with France. The Stamp Act was an act that the British passed that basically made everything that was paper have a tax. Specifically, legal docs and printed stuff. It was important because it was the start of a string of taxes that angered the colonists. The colonists believed that they didn't deserve these taxes, but the British spent money on protecting the colonies so in return they were asking "payment" of sorts.
- 5. Intolerable Act-1774
- The British are imposing ridiculous taxes on us. Im going to have no money after this. How will I eat?
- The Quartering Act of 1765 required the colonies to let British soldiers in barracks provided by the colonies. It was important because the colonists didn't agree to let these soldiers into their houses yet they were being forced. This led to the colonists being even angrier at the British. The British had already placed taxes on the colonists and this was another act that made the colonists even madder.
- 6. 2nd Continental Congress-May 10, 1775
- I am Benjamin Franklin and this is the Albany Plan of Union! Join or DIE!
- The Boston Massacre was a deadly riot that occurred on March 5, 1770, on King Street in Boston. It started as a small fight between a few American colonists and one British soldier but quickly escalated to a deadly, bloody slaughter. This was important because it was used as propaganda to fuel the colonists rage against the British. It was also important because it would be a tipping point for many colonists to fight instead of stay silent. It was the first lethal action being taken on the colonists so it was important.
- The Intolerable Acts were a set of acts that were imposed on the colonies as retaliation because of the Boston Tea Party. The British wanted to show the colonies that they had power over them. These acts included the Boston Port act, which closed the Boston Port, the Massachusetts Government Act, which closed the upper government, and strengthened the Quartering Act. These acts were the final blow to the colonists. This was important because this was the act that set off the Revolutionary War.
- Well... We did this to ourselves. They did this as retaliation against the Boston Tea Party we had.
- The Second Continental Congress would be America's first real attempt at representative self-government, with it being the government of the American colonies from 1775-1781. It was important because it was the ground work for the government we have today. It unified the colonies together. It made a common currency. Eventually, they also made the Declaration of Independence.
- We need to unite the colonies so that we can fight as a whole against the British!
- We can also have a universal currency then!
