Good morning, 12 - RV! Let's start the lesson, shall we?
PALEOGENE PERIOD
One of the major events that happened during the Paleogene Period was the clashing of India into the Asian continent, creating the Himalayan Mountains.
Another is the climate change. Paleogene Period began with a warm and humid climate, but by the end of the period- the Oligocene Epoch- the climate had significantly cooled down.
As soon as the students were completed, Ms. Wendy greeted them enthusiastically and immediately started her lecture for the day, which is about the Paleogene Period and the major events that happened during this time.
Because of this temperature change, fish flooded the oceans, providing food for sharks, who had taken over the waterways in the absence of the Cretaceous' huge mosasaurs and plesiosaurs. Squid and other soft-bodied cephalopods have taken over the middle rung of the food chain from their shelled relatives.
All of the continents were still intact during the Paleocene Epoch. When the Eocene Epoch came, North America and Europe started to drift apart. During the Oligocene Epoch, Antarctica and Australia started to separate, and India clashes with the Asian continent. Glaciers had also started to cover Antarctica during this epoch.
Turtles, snakes, crocodiles, and lizards, among the lesser reptiles that survived the Cretaceous, basked in the tropical warmth along the beaches.
Ice began to accumulate at both the North and South poles, and seasonal fluctuations were more pronounced in the northern and southern hemispheres, affecting plant and animal life significantly.
And that's it for our lesson today! Goodbye everyone! Make sure to go home right away!
PALEOGENE PERIOD
The appearance of whales in the mid to late Paleogene was the most significant change in the seas. The colossal creatures descended from land mammals who ventured into the sea.
Birds, the last survivors of the dinosaur age, evolved and thrived in the skies. The quickly evolving mammals, on the other hand, stole the show. Primates, horses, bats, pigs, cats, and dogs had all developed by the end of the period, 23 million years ago, from a relatively lowly position 65 million years earlier.
The students said their thanks and farewells to Ms. Wendy as they start to clean up their school things and put it in their respective backpacks, preparing to go home. They would walk out of the classroom with a new set of knowledge learned, mixed with interest and curiousity about the other eras and periods that our planet had experienced.
