- Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink
- This expresses that food and water is much more important than love. This builds the theme as we suffer for love, abandoning our needs, not wants. This is very important so we don't prioritize love.
- Nor slumber nor a roof against the rain;
- This line is showing consideration that letting go and getting back healthy as she is seeing the damage caused. "Trading this memory" is representing that she may be willing to let go.
- The title, "Love is not all" is very fitting. Love is not a need. Love is not all we have. Love cannot protect us from being stormed on. We physically need shelter to protect us.
- Extended metaphor is represented in this poem. The purpose of this is to let it be known we need actual things to live, not love. Extended metaphors are very common in poems. An example of extended metaphor in this sonnet are, "Love is not all; it is not meat nor drink." this tells that we can live without love, not food or drink. Extended metaphors may look different in every poem, though they share the same concept. It makes the poem much more interesting and easy to enjoy.

- The turn in line 8 reforms the other lines prior. The elements before this line is expressing how we strive for love and suffer when its not at all what we need to live. We have things that we PHYSICALLY need to live, not an emotion. The turn after this element goes to tell Edna revisions her life before being caught up in love and realizing everything that has been lost. Decisions that were made had a very hard result. In the after turn, it is being considered to "sell your love", but in the end, she does not think she would.
- I might be driven to sell your love for peace, Or trade the memory of this night for food
- After much consideration, she goes against everything said. She is one that must accept that love is not all.
