¡Hola! You caught me as I was doing my Spanish assignment, I'm learning about the Preterit tense.
Oh, what is the Preterit tense? The Preterit tense is used to express an action that was totally completed in the past, an action completed at a definite specific moment in the past, an action or event that lasted for a specific period of time, a series of actions completed in the past and/or actions or events that are not usually repeated.
The first step to forming the Preterit tense is to remove the infinitive endings of the word, -ar, -er, or -ir, to get the root of the verb. For example, hablar becomes habl, comer becomes com and vivir becomes viv.
Next, we add the appropriate ending. For example, habl becomes "yo hablé", "tú hablaste", "él/ella/ud habló", "nosotros hablamos", "vosotros hablasteis" and "ellos/ellas/uds hablaron".
The endings for -ir and -er verbs differ from -ar verb ending so we must learn that as well. We also have to learn verbs with spelling changes, stem-changing verbs, verbs with irregular stems, and irregular verbs.
It's quite a bit really, but that's why I keep practicing. Well, I hope that you understand what the Preterit tense now, and I hope you practice it too ¡Adios!
