  • Diapositiva: 1
  • Have you heard about the transdiagnostic model
  • No.
  • It contains five cognitive beliefs which can drive disordered behavior. They include Low self esteem, perfectionism, emotional avoidance, strict dietary rules , and overevaluation of weight.
  • Diapositiva: 2
  • People with eating disorders often think they are not good enough and have a low self esteem. In simple terms they believe they have low self worth, these thoughts are often unrelated to what they are actually capable of
  • Additionally these people often over evaluate their weight or size. This obsessive focus on weight leads to behavior to control these factors, for example people who think they are fat will eat less or may take medicine to induce weight loss.
  • This obsessive control over weight leads to perfectionism. People create such high standards which are impossible to attain and constantly compare themselves to it. This can lead to people taking unhealthy means to achieve the desired results, and when those results are not meet they are left feeling inadequate.
  • Diapositiva: 3
  • People with eating disorders also impose strict dietary rules on themselves. This can be either what food or how much food they are consuming. This rules are often cruel on the body and unhealthy, however breaking these rules lead to feeling of failure that reinforce restrictive eating
  • Lastly, there is emotional avoidance. By restricting eating the person is able to maintain a sense of control that numbs or reduce negative emotions.
  • Do understand what the transdiagnostic model is, and how thee cognitive behaviors are signs of disorders or can lead to them?
