When the Spanish began to explore around the world, they came across Texas. They were noblemen trying to get rich and a name. The 3 reasons why they were exploring was because of God, Gold, and Glory. These noblemen were called the Conquistadors.
In 1519, Pineda became the first European to explore the Texas coast. He went from Jamaica to the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortunately, he didnt get to complete his mission. Some of his men were arrested by Hernan Cortes. They got arrested because some noticed how his mission was a threat.
In 1519, Cortes got sent to present day in Mexico by the governor of Cuba. Once he got there, a group called the Aztecs viewed Cortes and his men as gods because of the type of materials they had. Eventually, the Aztec enemies got overthrown by the Spanish. Because of this, Spain got an area of the mainland to use.
