- The invention of the cotton gin answers both of your questions. it takes out the seeds in the cotton quicker than any human could. This means that the owner needs more people picking cotton and can now afford more slaves.
- Political: anyone accused of being a runaway slave could be arrested by any special government official
- I am going to arrest you anyway just because I am suspicious of you.

- All of these big cities are built around the rivers because the south is full of rivers that farmers use to transport their crops down to other places so that is where all the people go because farming is the most popular way to make a living
