Linus arrives at the orphanage and meets Lucy. Lucy is a child at the orphanage who has special, dangerous powers

Linus takes the magical children on a special adventure through the woods. During the trip, he starts to understand the children better and realize he may have been wrong about them before.

"I know it's asking a lot, and it might bring more attention than you want, but he has nowhere to go" (393).
By the end of the story, Linus is helping to run the orphanage and is willing to help any magical child.
