- Ulysses Grant was marching over to the Mississippi with a plan. He knew that if he got the Mississippi River then they would be much more powerful and shipping supplies and goods would help win this war.
- If we take the town of Vicksburg, then we can also get the mississippi river which would be great for shipping supplies and goods towards the north.
- Ulysses Grant had a plan at vicksburg to not do a battle but do a siege. He surrounded the town using the mississippi river while bombarding them with artillery. He gave them very little to eat or drink until they surrendered.
- Give them only a cup of peas and a cup of water until they starve or surrender.
- With the win at Vicksburg, the union got access to the Mississippi River which allowed them to ship goods and supplies which were a big impact in the war. The river runs north and south which got food for soldiers to battle grounds or more ammunition if they needed it.
- This a great win for the north. We can ship supplies from the north and the south.
