Before the battle began, the allies formed a mastermind plan to conquer the Germans fierce defenses. They knew in order to recapture Netherlands their air force would be needed.
Horror on the Waters
Before the allies made it to the Netherlands, they persevered through many battles along the beaches of Normandy, France. The day they landed, June 6, 1944, is known as D-Day. Without the win of these battles, their entry to the Netherlands would've been a lot more challenging.

Though the plan was working well, it didn't come easy for the allies. The Germans defences and the muddy,flooded grounds made it harder to complete the mission. The Canadians used the conditions to their advantage and pushed the Nazis eastward along the Rhine river out of the territory.

They fought along the coasts to force the Germans back. This was crucial because the river was connected to the Antwerp port therefore they could move goods to their forces who were advancing.

By way of sea and air, the allies successfully took back the Netherlands territory from Nazi Germany control. It went as planned however the resilient Germans fought till the end.
To this day, the Netherlands still thank us Canadians for our role in their freedom with Liberation day every May 5th. The 7.600 Canadians soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the liberation are never forgotten by the Dutch.
