- Hi, I am Yeh-Shen and I am here with my fish, Shen-Shi.I have been friends with him for a long time. He is my only friend because my step-mother does not let me go to school.She always scolded me for no reason.I also get the worst chores ever,but I have been nothing but nice to her.My real parents past away when I was a little child.She also feeds me the leftover of what she and my step-sister eats.
- Do you like the food Shen-Shai?I hope I never lose you.
- I am so confused and sad right now.I went to see Shen-Shi, my best friend, but he wasn't there.Then, this old man comes to me and tells me that he is dead, and my step-mother was the cause of my fish's death.Finally, he told me that my fishes bones had special powers but use those powers wisely.
- God, why do you have to take all the things that I loved!
- My step-mother never let me leave the house unless for chore.I wanted to go to the dance but she said to watch the fruit tree.I don't even think that anyone will steal the fruits on the tree.I think she is just lying to get me to stay home.
- No you need to stay here and watch the fruit tree.
- Can I go to the dance with you step-mother?
- My fish's bone gave me this dress because I asked if it could let me go to the dance.When I went into the dance everybody was saying I am beautiful.When I heard my step-sister that I look like myself I ran away so they didn't know I was there.
- Doesn't that girl remind you of our Yeh-Shen.
- Isn't that girl pretty?
- Yes, she is Shang-Fee.
- When I was running away from the dance I lost  one of my shoes and now my fish bone won't talk to me.I need to get the other slipper soon.I should've been more careful to not lose the slipper.Now I am very sad because of my mistakes someone else had to be taken away.
- I should've not ran, but instead walked, so this would've never happened.
- This is where I live now because whenever I lost my shoe, it must have somehow gotten to the king because he made a pavilion of testing the shoe.When it was happening my step-mother did not let me go to test it.I was confident It was my shoe so in the middle of the night I went to get it and I was correct it was mine.Then, I think the king saw me and followed me home.He knocked on the door with his men and told me to try the shoe.I did and I went back to the beautiful red dress.So he told me to stay with him and he did not let my step-mom or step-sister go to the palace.Later they died from a rain of stone that hit their house.
- I am so glad that I finally got to leave them they treated me like trash.
- No problem, Yeh-Shen.I would do anything for you.
