in 1989, A big group of university students in china gathered in Tiananmen Square. They gathered to mourn the death of the former general secretary of the communist party.
He was well known as a symbol for anti- corruption and political reform.

Within several days, the group of students turned into over 100,000 of them gathering outside where the memorial service is being held.
Then three students put up a petition that demanded them up the steps and to meet Li Peng. After no response the students start protesting and boycotting classes which is illegal in China
The protest lead to lots of events like thousands of the students marching into Tiananmen square, the hunger strikes, and after doing a sit - in that attracted 1.2 million supporters

The protest go to a point where the government had to involve the military. The protest got worse and worse. One man stood in front of the tanks, and when they tried to go around him he kept getting in front of the tanks.
No one Knows to this day what his fate was nor his name. He is commonly known as tank man. There is also no known amount of people that were killed total. The government claimed 241 but the number is known to be closer to 2,600
