  • We are going to start with what are different earthquake hazards and risk reduction, we are going to explain why there are important and valuable to us.
  • Certainly, it is truly important and necessary for an individual to understand these information because it will help you be knowledgeable on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake.
  • The effects of an earthquake can be classified as primary or secondary. Primary effects are permanent features an earthquake can bring out. Fault scarps, surface ruptures, and offsets of natural or man-made objects are examples.
  • When ground movement causes other sorts of devastation, secondary impacts occur. Examples include landslides, tsunami, liquefaction and fire. I believe everyone understands what landslides, tsunami, and fires are so we are going to discuss what liquefaction is. It may be a term not everyone knows.
  • Liquefaction occurs when a soil's strength and stiffness are weakened as a result of earthquake shaking or other fast stress. Liquefied soil loses its ability to support roads, subsurface pipes, and dwellings as it becomes less compact.
  • Generally, there are 3 ways to reduce the risks of an earthquake and they are: effective recording and interpretation of ground motion, constructing seismic hazard maps, and developing resistant structures. Effective recording can be done by the use of effective instrumentation to determine the location, magnitude, and frequency of earthquakes.
