- The one thing a generation can learn from another generation is perseverance. My mother had learned perseverance in life long ago. She had learned it from her work instructor named Shawn Weeks, and the story of her instructor inspired my mother.
- My mom had an instructor named Shawn Weeks who worked at The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. Her instructor was on a flight called Pan Am it was flight 830 it was on August 11, a Wednesdayin 1982.
- The Plane There were 285 people aboard the plane. 15 crew members and 270 passengers were all headed to Hawaii to land.
- Explosion but during the flight there was an explosion in the passenger area many were injured but the plane remained on course to land.My mothers instructor wasalso among the injured but despite that she had been on that plane and had been injured when the explosion happened, she still wanted to work at FLETC.
- My mother had said “When I was a newly hired officer at TSA I had the opportunity to train with someone who had experienced the fear of a terrorist event first hand. One of my instructors at FLETC, Shawn Weeks Freeman, was a flight attendant on the 1982 Pan Am flight that was bombed. She described the experience in detail and how when she heard about the formation of TSA she wanted to be involved. She began working at TSA as it was rolled out and now is a training instructor. I admire her courage. “Instead of being afraid I decided to do something to prevent others from experiencing the nightmare that she did,” said my mother.
- In the¨Invisible Thread¨ it says that Laura helped Maurice have hope, she had taught him things about life, and she gave him new clothes, trinkets, and food so he could have a good life, he had learned from her in many ways. From ¨Two Kinds¨ the mother had learned that she was too hard on her daughter in the end, and the daughter had learned that her mother was sorry for giving her such a hard childhood when her mother had given her the piano with the song two kinds.
