  • King Louis XVI calls a meeting with the Estates general to bring forward a solution for his government's financial problems. The decide to raise taxes even more.
  • To defend the National Assembly, rioters attacked Bastille, which was a prison where the king kept people who spoke against him. The rioters ended up taking control of the prison, which took power from the king.This was the beginning of the Revolution
  • The people in the Third Estate were getting tired of King Louis treating them unfairly. So they decided to create their own group called the National Assembly. They met regularly, traded ideas, and basically planned how they were going to fight back against the king.
  • The National Assembly swore on a Tennis Court Oath, where they vowed to stay put until a new constitution was written, where they would become a republic.

  • The National Assembly created a bill of rights, that was more fair to their people. It gave them freedom of speech, the freedom of press, and the freedom of religion. It also protects citizens from being falsely accused. This declaration is still included in the French Constitution in the present day.

  • The National Assembly passed new reforms and forced the King of France to accept them. After this, they began setting up a new government, which took away privleges from nobles and clergy, and including writing a constitution.
