In Fences, Troy disapproves of Cory playing football. He says to him, "You go on down there to that AP and see if you can get your job back. If you can't do both...then you quit the football team" (Wilson 38). This shows how Cory stops his son from playing football affecting his scholarship and his life after highschool.

In Fences while Bono and Troy are talking about Troy's old baseball career, he says, "Ain't, but two men ever played baseball as good as you" (Wilson 14). Troy used to play baseball in the negro league after he got out of jail. He was the best player in his league, but unfortunately, couldn't take it to the next level.
