- Hui and Wairere together at the Waitakere tribe home and the Waitakere Patupaiarehe taking magic from the earth
- Once upon a time there was a flat land where the Patupaiarehe fairy people lived, they all didn’t get along too well so the two different iwis lived on two different sides. One tribe was the Waitakere Patupaiarehe and the other was Hunua Patupaiarehe; the rangtatira’s (chief) son of the Waitakere tribe one day went missing after playing a game which included going the the other tribes area of land and bringing back a token from their land.
- The missing of his son led him to start a war party and right before they set off the son Hui came back but now with the Hunua tribes rangtatira’s daughter(Wairere). This new discovery of Wairere missing led to the Hunua tribe to start a war party and led into the Waitakere’s land but they saw this attack and collected magic from the earth to kill the Hunua people and help them win.

- The guardian of the earth secrets, Mataaho got mad over the Waitakere people taking the earth's magic and told his brother Ruaumoko the god of volcanoes and earthquakes. They were extremely angered by them taking the magic and not asking for permission before hand, this led them to combine their angry and take out who was responsible for taking the magic and creating a huge hole in the ground melting him into it and they both killed all of the remaining Patupaiarehe people by throwing rocks and melting them into the ground but Wairere and Hui were left alive all alone.

- Background Summary:Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau, Tāmaki meaning desired by many lovers was called this because of the Waitakere people who messed with the magic in the earth which angered Mataaho the guardian of the earth's secrets and his brother the god Ruaumoko. Their anger led to the deaths of the Waitakere Patupaiarehe and created the areas volcanos and curves within the ground that used to be flat and explains why the area is called Tāmaki because of its great resources created by this that many love.

- Many years after all of that had happened the Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau area became very popular because of the great fertile soil left from the battle and its amazing open space, where the area was surrounded by water so it was easy to see attackers from far ahead and the water gave another source of food and so on. Different tribes like Ngāi Tai, Ngāi Te Ata, Ngāi Pāoa all settled sometime in this area because of those reasons. The main power in the Tāmaki ishmus was the Wai-o-Hua, a federation of tribes formed under the Hua-O-Kaiwaka.

- Between the years 1740 and 1750 Ngāi Whātua-o-Kaipara tribe moved up south and invaded and killed the Kiwi Tāmaki, paramount chief of Wai-o-Hua, they secured this area intermarrying descendants of he Wai-o-Hua. After this there was a period of peace. Between the 1600s to 1750s Tāmaki pā(settlements) and they all together developed about 2000 hectares of kumara gardens. The peak of prosperity was in the 1750s the population numbered in tens of thousands.

- In 1821 the Ngapuhi leader Hongi Hika launched a series of attacks on the region because of previous losses at their hands. Ngapuhi went into two settlements of Ngāti Paoa with 2,000 men and 1,000 muskets and killed many and enslaved many too. He then repeated the same attacks on different settlements and areas near in the region. And again in 1825 he attacked again but now attacked the Ngāti Whātua, even with 1000 warriors and 500 strong invading force Ngāti Whātua leader abandoned the isthmus and took his people into exile. This battle that happened is known as Te Ika-a-ranganui.
