  • Birth: Lumbini, Nepal Buddha emerged from Queen Maya's side as she stood leaning against a tree in a painless birth. He was named Siddhārtha meaning ' a man who achieves his goals'.
  • The Four Sights Siddhārtha left the palace at 29 to see the real world. He saw an old man, his body broken by life. He saw a sick man on the roadside. He saw a corpse being prepared for cremation. He saw an aesthetic Hindu monk. Those made him leave the palace.
  • The First Sermon Siddhartha is now known as the Buddha, which means 'enlightened one. He first preached his sermon in Sarnath, India at a royal deer park. He shared his new understanding of life with 5 Hindu ascetics.
  • Enlightenment He sat under a tree and saw death and rebirth and how good deeds result to a better next life and bad deeds result to suffering. He achieved nirvana, and experienced the end of suffering and the cycle. He was in this state for 7 days.
  • Teachings The Buddha continued teaching for the last 45 years of his life.He traveled all over northern and central India, teaching in a variety of dialects.
  • Death The Buddha died at the age of 80 near a small town called Kuśinagara, in Malla. He possibly died from food poisining. He encouraged his monastic followers with his final words" “Things that arise from causes will also decay. Press on with due care.” Unseasonal forest flowers fall he passes away.
