- The purpose of interest groups is to represent groups and issues, educate the public, program/monitor, political participation, and agenda building to influence public policy.The purpose of political parties is to educate the public, support and elect officials, and influence policy, they represent a large variety of issues and pick candidates.

- Though the two are very similar, the significant difference is that political parties have a stance on a wide range of issues while most interest groups focus on one topic or group of people.

- Political Parties use education to get the word out about issues that will be topic in public policy. The education of the public on issues in government is important for voters to make informed disicions about who to vote for,

- We are willing to help fund your campaign if you support our cause
- If elected I will support your enviornmental cause
- Political Parties nominate candidates that will, if elected, make policies that will allign with the parties values. This allows parties to control what policies are being made. For example Obama had some enviornmental issues in his proposed agenda when he was nominated by the Democratic party
- One strategy used by intrest groups is lobbying. Lobbying is when a representative from an intrest group talks with a policy maker about the issue that is important to their intrest group. For example the enviornmental intrest group Environmental Defense Fund uses advocacy work to influence policies on climate change.
- The purpose of PACs is to fund the campaigns of candidates an intrest group supports. PACs are often formed by large coportations or investors. One example of an enviornmental PAC is the League of Conservation Voters. This PAC donated over $900,000 to Democratic campaigns in 2019-2020 election year. $5,000 of that went to Joe Biden's campaign for that year. This allowed that intrest group to have an influence over the policies being made.
