  • Mixture time! What are mixtures?Mixtures are substances that are physically and not chemically bonded together meaning that they can be physically separated. substances that are mixed together do not form a new substance. Mixtures can be homogeneous which means the substances are evenly distributed or heterogeneous where the substances are not evenly mixed and different parts can be seen.

  • An example of a mixture is salt water. When salt is added to water, each substance maintains their original properties instead of creating a new substance with new properties. The salt remains salt and the water remains water, the salt is just evenly distributed. salt water can be separated by methods like evaporation, where the water is exposed to heat and evaporates, leaving the salt behind.

  • Fun fact time!did you know that the air we breathe is actually a mixture? it is not made up of only oxygen but instead nitrogen, helium, argon, carbon dioxide and many more things. Air is a homogeneous mixture because the substances that make up air as we know it, are evenly distributed.
