- The whole train was empty as it was pretty late. Holden went and sat down. All of a sudden, the this lady got on at Trenton and sat down next to Holden. Holden was sitting at the front seat. Holden liked women. She started talking to him. She noticed the Prency Prep sticker on Holden's suitcase.

- Holden couldn't call up for a cab or anything as it was too late. He decided to walk all the way to the train station. It wasn't too far however, it was too cold. Holden didn't care of how he looked like. He put on his hat he had brought with him and this made his ears nice and warm.
- The cold hurt my nose and right under my lip, where old Stradlater'd laid on me. I don't care how I look with the hat with earlaps on it.

- They first talked about how Holden was going to have an operation. They didn't talk much as she left the train and got off at Newark. She wished Holden luck with the operation and invited him over for summer.
- No, everybody's fine at home. It's just that I have to have this operation.
- Theme: Holden feels lonely and sad. He decides to take a train. In the train he meets a lady, Mrs. Morrow who he talks to by lying all the time. His intentions of lying are to make Mrs. Morrow feel happy about her son who studies with Holden. This shows that Holden has a bad character of lying but he does it for good sometimes. This chapter shows how people lie to feel better. Also, it shows how lonely he feels inside.
- I hope you weren't called home suddenly because of illness in the family.

- No, thank you. I have to go to South America with my grandmother.
- You can come over during summer to visit Ernie at our house that is close to the beach.
