Christopher Columbus wanted to find a quicker way to get to India, China, japan and the spice lands. So he decided to ask the king and queen of Portuguese for help. They rejected him and he decided to try somewhere else.
When they reached the island they made landfall. The native people that lived on the island called it Guanahani but later Christopher Columbus renamed it San Salvador. When it was time to go back Christopher Columbus left some of his crew mates behind.
After getting rejected at least 2 times he shared his idea with King Ferdinand || of Aragon and Queen Isabella of Castile and asked for help. They agreed and helped him. They gave him 3 boats which were Santa Maria, Pinta, and Niña.
Christopher Columbus took 90 men along with his 3 boats. On August, 3, 1492, his voyage began across the Atlantic Ocean. It took him 36 days to get to his destination believing it was Spain.
Christopher Columbus sailed back to Spain with kidnapped natives and a few other things. Only 8 of the natives survived and the rest died along the way. The called what they had seen the “new world”. After his first voyage Christopher Columbus made a few other voyages and visited other islands as well.
