- Montag wants to understand what he is reading in the books that he took so he goes to the English Professor he met before.
- Can you teach me to understand what I read?
- Montag has enough of Mildred and her friends just watching TV so he starts reading his book to teach them something.
- "To one another! for the world, which seems To lie before us like a land of dreams..."
- Beatty finds out about Montag's books, so he confronts him at his house. To save himself and Faber, Montag kills Beatty.
- There is no terror, Cassius, in your threats, for I am arm'd so strong in honesty that they pass by me as the idle wind, which I respect not.
- Montag runs to Faber's house for help. Before leaving, Montag helps Faber to escape from the mechanical hound
- "...I deserve everything. Run, for God’s sake. Perhaps I can delay them here—”
- "He tossed his own clothing into the river and watched it swept away."
- Montag jumps into the river so the mechanical hound loses his scent. Once he washes up on shore, he changes into Fabers clothes.
- Montag meets the drifters, a group of intellectuals that are considered outlaws in their society; they help Montag remember books so they can print them in the future.
- “Welcome back from the dead.”
