- Maple street is peaceful, people are chatting and doing typical things. Women are gossiping, and no one is fighting. Nothing is out of place, and people are relaxing.
- climax
- Suddenly, they hear the noise, electricity like phones and cars are not working. The people assume aliens must be responsible, and come to the conclusion they are living among them as humans on Maple Street. They begin to self-destruct, and pick each other apart for small things they do that appear different.
- falling action
- The group of people realize that one of their neighbors car is working. They let fear take over common sense. Accusing each other for small things that seem to be different. They begin to destroy one another, and no one is safe from the harsh accusations.
- resolution
- Charley notices a dark figure, and shoots it, assuming it was an alien. Pete Van Horn drops dead on the ground. The citizens in the neighborhood grow angry with Charley, even though they also were part of the mess.
- The citizens are angry with Charley, and begin to yell at him. Charley feels guilty, but he claims he was only doing it to protect himself. But, the other citizens were also contributing to this, they created this idea of an alien living among them, and turned on each other.
- Charley defends himself, and also shows that they weren't completley innocent. They realize how out of hand the situation had gotten. The citizens also realize how fast they turned on each other, and were so quick to blame.
