During the first presidency term of George Washington, Hamilton and Jefferson, Washington's Secretary of Treasure and Secretary of State, were discussing how the country and government should be handled.
Both of them had different views on how things should be handled which led to conflicts.
Hamilton wanted an industrial economy, where the government was large and active and was good friends with England. He disliked France and didn't think there should be excise tax, where they were taxing the poor to make the rich richer.
On the other hand Jefferson wanted America to be aan agrarian country where the government was small and it stayed out of people'sbusiness Opposite from Hamilton, Jefferson liked France and disliked England. He didn't like the bank either but supportedthe excise tax.
Both of their differences resulted in Hamilton creating the first political party called the Federalist. After a second part was created called the Democratic-Republicans. Those were the people who followed Jefferson.
They both had many differences. For example, Hamilton had a loose interpretation where he said that if the Constitution did not say it was wrong then it could be done, while Jefferson was the opposite and he had a strict interpretation. At the end of the day Jefferson's ideas were chosen and it got us where we are today.
