- Hana and Sadao stood in the comfort of each other as nightfell. When suddenly both of them saw something appear out of the midst . It was a man initially mistaken for a fisherman .... it was gravely injured solider.
- Now the question arose what was to be done to the now identified US navy American soldier .Their primary option was to throw him into the sea as it was the kindest thing to do according to them. But once they realized that he had escaped and was wounded Dr. Sadao decided to operate on him and take the decision to turn him over to the authorities from there, he then rationalized not doing so would endanger him and his family.
- Dr Sadao decides to treat the wounded American solider and soon realizes he has to be operated on. Once recovered he would be turned over to the authorities, in this case he is not betraying his country or breaking his Hippocratic oath. There is panic within the household as with Hana the servants as well are requested to help in saving the American.
- The servants had their mind set they would not tolerate in helping the enemy any further and would not return until he was gone. To them aiding the master was betraying their country for a single white man . Hana was helpless as she understood both sides of the situation. Hana still hoped they would not leave but to her dismay In the morning the servants left together, and none of the household chores were done . She knew what it meant but she did not once show any sign of disappointmentor anger .
- On the seventh day a messenger had come to call Dr. Sadao to the palace as the general was in pain. While treating the general Sadao explained his entire plight and the general assured him not to worry and that he would send the assassins to take care of the needful. The reason being the general explained how indispensable Sadao's skills are as a doctor to him .
- As the days went on and as Sadao waited for the American to meet his faith, Sadao realized that the American sailor was in much better shape and leaving him to die in the hands of the assassins was not right. As such he quickly arranged a safe and well thought out exit plan for the American. The sense of gratitude the American had for Dr. Sadao was evident. Dr. Sadao watched the American leave in the same waters that he had once washed upon from.
