Three of the friends Chris, Teddy and Gordie are playing cards in the tree house theybuild in an elm tree over a vacant lot when Vern Tessio arrives and asks them if they want to see a dead body. He had heard his brothers talking about how they found the dead body of Ray Bower.In this part some of the characters are introduced, and we can already create a mental picture of how some of them look, like Teddy, ho wears glasses and is quite deaf because his father had burned his ears.

In their journey to finding the dead body of the missing kid, Chris and Gordie have some deep conversations that help the reader notice the special bond that they share, and how protective they are with each other. The rising Action is presented when Chris explains how sometimes society and even your friends drag you down, and you don´t have another choice than to drown with them, meanwhile Gordie tells him that they will get out together. This already tells the reader that the friend group as it is shown in the beginning, will break apart at some point.
