- Anniah and Arlo Fisher took the Wizard's advice and even 13 years later, Skye Fisher wore her necklace always. She was told it protected her from herself, but she still hated it. She tried to pretend that it wasn't there and that she wasn't restricted, but it was never enough. Whenever she wanted to wear a different necklace, she had to have her mother enchant her gold one to be invisible while she wore the other one. She always felt suffocated but understood how her parents worshipped the Wizard and their complete faith in him. Skye knew that her loving parents were just trying to keep her safe. Her main hobbies were sword-fighting, riding her qorse, and going on walks, all things she always did with her best friend, Mildrin.

- Horse Quanter Qorse
- A qorse was a combination of a horse and a quanter. The horses came from Balase, the human kingdom, and the quanters came from Chaterix, the elf kingdom. Quanters look like horses, except they are navy blue all over with dark purple mane, always. They were called quanters because they can travel through realms using quantum energy. When the peasants from both kingdoms heard of the Sanctuary and fled to it, they brought their horses and quanters with them. Some of them began to breed together, creating a new animal called a qorse. These qorses had the navy blue body and purple mane of a quanter, but could have variations of patterns, unlike normal quanters. They also have all the powers of the quanters, but they are less powerful. They are also extremely fast, but a little shorter than horses or quanters.

- As if! Did you forget about the waterfall? That always scares you! *laughs* Oh, and by the way, you should come by for dinner, later!
- We should race through our usual swimming race course. I bet I'd win!
- Of course! As long as Harold, Melina, and Robert aren't invited. *groans* I hate them.
- Back to Mildrin and Skye, they were the best of friends. Secretly, they had feelings for each other, but both of them thought it was one-sided. They decided to take a walk together and talk, as they did sometimes. Skye invited Mildrin over to her house for dinner, later, and he immediately accepted. He would've rather spent time with the person he loved most instead of his horrible adopted family. Mildrin was an elf, but his parents were killed by elven guards just as they were about to enter the Sanctuary. They were dead and so was their quanter, but the Wizard managed to save Mildrin. Harold Callmeer, his wife Melina, and their son Robert were horrible people. The Sanctuary was divided into four parts, called quadrants, and each had an elected leader. These leaders would meet every day to discuss what happened in each quadrant. Harold was a quadrant leader, which made him even more insufferable. Mildrin was forced to live with them, but he always considered himself Mildrin Hassanavka, not Mildrin Callmeer.

- So, how was your walk? Is Mildrin coming down for dinner tonight, like he usually does?
- Yeah. Harold has become even more irritating, if you can believe it. And his son is even worse; Robert keeps asking me to be pledged to him. It's utterly disgusting.
- Skye's parents were always welcoming towards Mildrin. They knew how good and smart he was, and approved of that. They sympathized with his home situation, especially because they disliked Harold. His son, Robert, had been bothering Skye. He was "in love" with her, so he kept asking her to agree to be pledged to him. That would mean that she would not be allowed to court or marry anyone other than him. He already pledged to her, but she refused to do so for him. Furthermore, his parents only encouraged him and shamed Skye for refusing.

- FLASHBACK...
- Back when Mildrin was new to the Sanctuary, he was only 13 years old. Though he was two years older than Skye, he didn't look like it, as he had been living on the streets, malnourished and on the run from the elven guards. His parents kept him safe, but when they were riding their qaunter to the Sanctuary, they were murdered by the elven guards. Thankfully, the Wizard was able to save Mildrin and seal the barrier in time. Mildrin was scared and angry, so to distract him and cheer him up, he was invited to the annual Welcoming Party! It was a tradition for a Sanctuarian (citizen of the Sanctuary) to host the party in the town square. Its purpose? To welcome new Sanctuarians and establish the Sanctuarian motto: "You are welcome here. You are safe here. You are part of our community." After putting on her fancy clothes, Skye headed out to find Mildrin. He was shivering in fear and staring at the floor, dead-eyed, so she decided to talk to him and be his friend. He was cowering in the corner, his hair short (since he didn't have enough money to manage long hair.)

- Mildrin was very grateful to Skye, as she was the first person who was actually kind and understanding to him. You might be thinking that his adopted parents, Harold and Melina Callmeer, would be empathetic to him, but no. To be frank, they were empathetic without the "em". They were horrible excuses for parents and they only adopted Mildrin so they could use him for the magic abilities that all elves had. What they didn't know, however, was that elves had to be taught to hone their abilities; otherwise, it was useless. After learning this, the Callmeers dropped their facade of being "nice parents" and were as malicious as they wanted to be. This, as you can imagine, didn't help Mildrin, with his mental and emotional state already deteriorating. So, when a kind, smart, funny young girl his age approached him with an open heart, an open mind, and open arms, it was like a miracle. They became fast friends after that, but trouble was inevitable...
