After Jason's uncle, Pelias, stole the throne from Jason's grandfather Jason demanded the throne back. Pelias said to cross the seas to Colchis and steal the golden fleece from King Aeetes and only then would Pelias step down.
The gods were in Jason's favor and help him assemble a mighty team of Hercules, Argus, Castor and Pollux, the Boreads, and Orpheus. They called themselves the Argonouts and their mission was to retrieve the golden fleece.
After the Argonauts sailed to Lemnos and Mount of Bears they found an old man named Phineas. Phineas warned them of the dangers of such as the smashing rock.
The Argonauts made it to Colchis and Jason'd idea was to simply ask Aeetes for the fleece. Aeetes became angered by Jason's audacity to ask the question and ordered him to complete 3 impossible challenges to earn the fleece. Luck for Jason the princess Medea falls in love with him and is determined to help with the challenges.
Medea gives Jason what he needs and Jason finished the tasks. Aeetes was oblivious up until he realized he had been betrayed.
Jason and Medea make a run for it but Aeetes sends an army led by his son to find them. Jason, however, kills Aeetes' son out of cold blood and the pair escape with no honor. The gods became angered and led them to cerci.
