Different races didn't have the same rights as others. For example Afro Americans were taken away from their country and would become slaves, with no rights/someone else's position

CONFEDERACY
The southern states supported slavery and they kept most of the slaves there. Against them were the northern states that were called the union, and wanted to unite all the states and give all people equal rights.
We will win this war and abolish slavery
Because of diversity of opinion between the opposing sides in 1861 came to one of the most revolutionary wars in the history of slavery.
The Confederate states had less resources than the Union therefore were finally outnumbered and didn't have enough resources. With that reason in 1865 the South surrendered.
We surrender
After the surrender of the Confederate states Afro Americans around the U.S were free people and equal to the white folk.
