The Spanish-American War was between the US and Spain in 1898. The war was fought for the independence of Cuba. The war began on April 25, 1898, when the US declared war due to the “Sinking of the Battleship Maine”. The United States needed all it could get, so there were more than just soldiers. There were Cowboys, ranchers, and outdoorsmen, fighting alongside them. They soon earned the nickname, “Rough Riders” and were led by Theodore Roosevelt, future president of the US.

They were led by Vladimir Lenin and a group of revolutionaries called the Bolsheviks. The new communist government created the country of the Soviet Union.
