- Martin Luther was scared of a lightning storm he was stuck in. He promised God that if he survived, he would become a Monk.

- Luther entered a monastery, but his father disapproved it.

- He studied the Bible for hours and would think about the words. It came to thought that he would begin to change and come to revolutionary conclusions.

- Pope Leo X decided to rebuild St. Peter's Basilica. To raise money for his project, he would sell jobs and indulgences.

- Indulgences! Indulgences! Come get an indulgence to go to Heaven!

- Luther didn't agree with the indulgences and many other things the Pope made up because the indulgences would buy forgiveness for peoples' sins and give them a chance for Heaven. So, he made the Ninety-five Theses. He nailed his theses to a church door on October 31, 1517.

- The Pope didn't like this, so he decided to give him a consequence. The Pope attacked Luther and excommunicated him from the church. He went to Worms and was told to take back everything he said. He said no, people pretended to kidnap Luther, and people thought he was dead.
