Fever 1793 is about a girl who gets the Yellow Fever and her struggles. My favorite part of the book is when General Washington returns to Philadelphia. The first frost came and took the fever away. Mattie, Eliza, Nell, Joseph, William, Robert, Nathaniel, and Mother Smith had a meal to give thanks. Mattie asks Eliza to be partners with her in the coffeehouse. Eliza agrees. Mattie and Eliza reopened the coffeehouse for business. One day while Mattie is working at the coffeehouse, Nathaniel bursts in and announces that General Washington is coming. Everyone in the coffeehouse left to see him. Nathaniel took Mattie by the hand and they raced outside. They find a gap in the crowd and stand there. General Washington rode by and everyone cheered. They continued to cheer until he was out of sight. This scene is important because it shows that General Washington believes that the fever is gone and by returning, he feels that Philadelphia is safe again.
