Relationship with Writing

- At a young age I loved school. I enjoyed every subject but my favorite subject was writing. It was a way to express my words of paper because I was very shy. Writing was like my safe haven where I can say what's on my mind without having to speak.
- In high school, I found myself to have a love hate relationship with writing. I lost my interest and writing assessments were not fun to do. As much as I used to love to write I struggled with being motivated to write. 
- When I came to college I feared of having to write so many essays and papers. I was scared that professors would give me harsh feedback or no feedback at all. For a couple of semesters, I did not want to do anything with writing but I knew I had to start writing somewhere.
- The thought of having to start somewhere helped calm myself and my mind. I went to the library and sat down at a computer to start writing a two page paper for my class. I knew that though I did not find as much joy in writing I had to improve my writing and skills.
- Spring of 2022 I enrolled in a 'Teaching with Writing' course. I was worried but prepared to write a few more papers if I had to. But Dr. Jody Lawrence reassured the class that this class will teach us the types of practices in writing instruction, strategies in writing, what writing is all about when teaching students, and more. This class has made me reflect as a writer and allowed me to reminisce how much I loved writing.  
- Dr. Jody Lawrence has helped me feel confident and passionate, once again, about teaching young students about writing. It makes me excited to be working with students and help them find joy in writing.
