- One Major theme of "Monster Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling is that mankind is its own worst enemy. One example that supports this theme is when the residents of Maple Street quickly stormed Les Goodman's house after his car turned on by itself without properly investigating and asking questions(pg. 76-77). This shows how the residents of Maple Street had no trust in Les Goodman and were quick to assume he was an alien. Another example that supports this theme is when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn without shouting to see if it was anyone they knew (pg. 82-83). This demonstrates how Charlie shot and killed his own neighbor just because of how scared he was. Lastly, an example that supports the theme is when all of Maple Street turned on each other and started to become a fight everywhere. Guns where being shot, rocks were being thrown, and there were screams all around (pg. 84-85). This shows how the people of Maple street turned on each other because they couldn't trust each other. In conclusion, the theme for "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Serling is Mankind is its Own Worst Enemy.
