  • Mr. Black: When you face stress, your brain activates the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal axis. Your hypothalamus signals the pituitary gland, which then tells the adrenal glands to release cortisol.
  • Alex: That’s what gives us the fight-or-flight response, right?
  • Exactly! Short-term, it helps. But too much cortisol for too long can harm your body. Constant high levels of stress can cause physical issues such as high blood pressure and an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases.
