- Ambo soon got tired of the four puppies. He sidled close to Baldo and put out a hand to caress the black-spotted puppy.
- My puppy.My puppy.
- Let me play with him too.

- Don’t touch my puppy!
- Baldo and Ambo fight against with each other. Baldo holding the puppy against his throat while Ambo grabbed its tail.The dog has gone mad and bit Ambo.
- GRRRRR!!!
- I hope you die,you little demon!
- Fools! Don’t you see it is mad?
- I will kill you both, you bastards.
- Enough, father, enough. Don’t beat it anymore
- Tang Ciaco got angry to his children. He hit the puppy using a firewood and eventually killed it. He also shouted at Nana Elang.
- Tang Ciaco hit Baldo and Ambo. The boys ran towards Nana Elang.
- I will kill you both, you bastards.

- Nana Elang knelt by her children and dusted their clothes. She passed her hand over the red welts on Baldo and put one arm around Ambo.

- Baldo and Ambo searched among the tall corn for the body of the dead puppy. When they found the dead dog, they buried it in one corner of the field. Baldo dug the grove with a sharp-pointed stake. Ambo stood silently by, holding the dead puppy.
- When Baldo finished his work, he and his brother gently placed the puppy in the hole. Then they covered the dog with soft earth and stamped on the grave until the disturbed ground was flat and hard again.
- With difficulty they rolled a big stone on top of the grave. Then Baldo wound an arm around the shoulders of Ambo and without a word they hurried up to the house.
