- We should meet Grandpa.

- Martin and his parents figured that Grandpa thought he was going to die. Grandpa explains that he was saving money for his funeral. Martin's dad was upset about not bringing Grandpa back with them this summer.Grandpa told them it was time. It was time to past the medicine bag to Martin since he was the oldest male child. Martin was determined but he knew he had to take the medicine bag. Grandpa stays for two months.
- One day after school, Martin's friends wanted to meet Grandpa. Cheryl told her friends that they could meet Grandpa. Martin wasn't sure if they should.
- Martin's friends went his house to meet grandpa. Grandpa is dressed nicely and impressed Martin's friends. Martina and Grandpa made contact, Grandpa figured that Martin thought he was goin to embarrass him. Martin's friends introduced themselves and were being civil. His friends wanted to see grandpa again one day. Martin was so pleased with Grandpa. That night, Grandpa told Martin he would be passing down the medicine bag to Martin.
- The day after, Martin knew that he was going to receive the medicine bag. Grandpa meets Martin in his room and explains the history of the medicine bag. Grandpa explains how his father went on a journey to strive for spiritual guidance at a high butte. Grandpa's father had a vision of a white man's iron. At the high butte, he finds a broken iron kettle and remains of a campfire. He took it as a sign to take the iron kettle for the medicine bag.
- Grandpa's father was old when Grandpa became a man and the medicine bag was passed down to him. Grandpa's father fought across the seas. Grandpa gave him the medicine bag for good luck but the father didn't take it. Grandpa's father. was afraid to take it with him because he thought he would lose it. Sadly, he passed away. Grandpa had to pass down to him since Grandpa didn't have a son.
- Grandpa removes a piece of iron from his father quest and a pebble from the butte. Grandpa held the bag upside while sacred sage fell from it. Martin can never open the bag until it's passed down to the next oldest male child. Martin does not need to wear the bag until he replace the sacred sage. Martin thanked Grandpa for the bag. That night, Grandpa was taken to the hospital. Martin stood alone on a prairie of the reservation and put the sacred sage in the medicine bag.
