  • Why are there so many people in line?
  • It's the only hospital with an MRI. We're all in line for an appointment.
  • RADIOLOGY
  • Well that doesn't sound good . . .
  • RADIOLOGY
  • The problem, is that the other facilities aren't getting approved to add MRI services and this hospital can't meet the demand without expansion.
  • More and more people are being turned away because there just aren't enough resources to treat everyone.
  • There has to be some regulation in place to fix this problem!
  • RADIOLOGY
  • It's the regulations that are the problem!
  • VirginiaMedical Care Facilities Certificate of Public Need Law
  • State regulations require medical facilities like this hospital to prove public need for things like MRI or CT services in order to expand or make changes to the existing capacity.
  • There's obviously a need. Look at all of the people waiting today! I read online that there are only 2.5 hospital MRI facilities for every 500,000 people in Virginia. That's one-third the national average. Why the limitations?
  • The purpose was to reduce an over-investment in facilities and equipment and reduce costs. If you narrow the competition - reduce supply and increase demand - you can charge higher prices for the services.
  • Why would we want THAT?!
  • CROSS-SUBSIDIZATION
  • The hope was that by increasing the cost to SOME, facilities could offer services to a greater population to include those with charity needs. The problem is that now there is less competition, fewer choices, and decreased accessibility to care.
  • So, until this hospital gets a Certificate of Need or the law changes? WE WAIT . . .
