- Offred
- Offred is the main character in The Handmaid’s Tale, and through her eyes, we see what it’s like to live in a world where women have almost no rights. She’s been forced into the role of a Handmaid, valued only for her ability to have children, and has had her name, family, and freedom taken from her. But even in such a controlled and brutal world, Offred holds on to her memories, her sense of self, and a quiet kind of strength.

- Serena Joy
- Serena Joy is the Commander’s wife in The Handmaid’s Tale, and while she holds a higher social position than the Handmaids, she’s also trapped in Gilead’s system. Once a powerful public figure who spoke out in favor of traditional values, Serena now lives with the consequences of the world she helped create—confined to her home, unable to work, and forced to watch another woman bear children for her. She’s often cold, bitter, and harsh, especially toward Offred, but beneath that is a deep sense of frustration and loss. Serena is complicated—both a victim and a supporter of the regime.

- Rita
- Rita is one of the Marthas in the Commander’s household, responsible for cooking and cleaning, and while she doesn’t have much power in Gilead, she’s learned how to survive within the system. At first, she comes across as gruff and distant, especially toward Offred, but over time it’s clear that there’s more to her than just her tough exterior. She’s cautious, probably because showing too much emotion or sympathy could be dangerous, but every now and then, little moments of kindness or frustration slip through. Rita’s world is small and tightly controlled, but she carries herself with quiet strength
