- Macbeth and Banquo walk through a bleak Scottish Moorland
- They stumble upon three witches, who tell them their prophecies
- When Macbeth returns, King Duncan crowns him Thane of Cawdor and tells him he will be coming over for dinner this evening. he sees that the prophecies are coming true

- Macbeth tells the news to his wife, who immediately becomes obsessed with the thought of being queen, so she makes a plan to murder King Duncan.
- When Duncan is sleeping, Lady Macbeth gets the guards drunk so Macbeth can enter and kill Duncan
