I married Beatrice O'Brien in 1905 and we had three children. Throughout my life, I was deeply interested in communication and technology, which led me to a career in radio and telecommunications.

- Despite having no formal engineering education, I had a keen interest in science and technology from an early age. I experimented and self-studied the works of scientists such as Heinrich Hertz. At the age of 20, I developed my first radio transmitter and later established the Wireless Telegraph and Signal Company, which was an important forerunner in the telecommunications industry.
